On for Theory Therapy 05 is DJ & producer Thomas Gray. In anticipation of his new album with musical partner Liam Ebbs - out soon on Analogue Attic - Thomas has gifted us with a gorgeous mix of electronic and ambient textures.
The piece was recorded on a Monday evening and in Tom’s words, was influenced by "the various emotions of the weekend that preceded it". Possibly as a result, there’s a distinctly meditative quality to Theory Therapy 5. The Sydney-based producer possesses an uncanny ability to fuse both electronic elements and organic textures like few other artists, something he proved on last year's outstanding 3 Days, 2 Nights EP with Liam Ebbs.
It makes sense then that Thomas has found his creative home on Melbourne’s Analogue Attic Records, which specialises in the gentler side of electronic music here in Australia. And like the rest of the Analogue Attic crew, the Sydney-producer crafts music with a strong sense of place. For those familiar with his work, it will come as no surprise that Gray’s Theory Therapy mix is expertly crafted and deeply connected to the environment in which it was conceived.
The mix features unreleased material from Gray and Ebbs, field recordings as well as several dub techno and house selections. The result is something that’s hard to pin down but easy to absorb. Thomas has crafted an effortlessly beautiful mix and a subtle exhibition in atmosphere. Take the trip.
