Theory Therapy 65: Eden Aurelius

Iconic ambient from Brooklyn.

“I find a lot of beauty in things that are aged or imperfect, but also a lot of peace in music that is very new and foreign to me.“ - Eden Aurelius

Hey Eden. How are you today?

I’m doing well – spent some time reading outside today so I’m pretty grateful for that.

What was the last song you listened to?

Dollarama by Loidis

Where’s your favourite place to listen to music?

I love listening to music on airplanes haha, but a more reasonable answer would be walking in Manhattan or somewhere natural. Pretty much anywhere where there are visual stimuli to interact with what I’m listening to.

Is there an artist or album you listen to a lot we might not expect based on your recent release on co:clear

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout

Can you tell us a little about your Theory Therapy mix? What were you feeling when you made it? Where did you record it?

The mix features music from Aught, Enmossed, City-2 St. Giga, and a few other labels and artists I find really inspiring. I get excited every time I’m working on a mix but I felt like I was connecting puzzle pieces with this recording in particular – seeing a thread between all of these different sounds and how they rely and evolve upon each other.  The mix was recorded in my home / studio in Brooklyn, New York.

Where would you recommend listening to it?

In the city at night or alone somewhere comfortable.

Theory Therapy mixes are about sharing the music that you personally find therapeutic, cathartic or restorative. What does that mean for you?

Therapeutic music is something that fluctuates a lot for me. I find a lot of beauty in things that are aged or imperfect, but also a lot of peace in music that is very new and foreign to me.

Is there a particular album or piece of music that you find yourself returning to for similar reasons?

Somewhere Decent To Live by Space Afrika. It encapsulates so much emotional depth, I always hear something new in that record. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform last year at Sustain Release in New York and it truly rewired my brain.

Tell us something exciting that's coming up in your life, music or otherwise.

I have a remix of ‘See the Light’ by Fumio Miyashita coming out on vinyl later this year which I am very excited to share. The project is being released via his son and a close friend of mine. Aside from that I have a single coming out on a various artists compilation which has yet to be announced but I am equally excited for.
